its true... if you havent seen the first, you can still enjoy the 2nd

but if you have seen the first, there are parts in 2 that relate to 1 & it will give you the "wowwwwwww" effect. so seeing 1 before seeing 2 is a relatively good idea if you want to be shocked more.

just my two cents

& just for the record

Saw II > Saw I

Me, Nate, Marc, Jay, Hammer, Shea, G all just saw it... awesome movie. I'm not a real horror buff, but Saw is in my Top-5 all-time. Saw II is a full head above the original. Not extremely complex, but the directing made up for it.

heres my review of Saw II, it will appear on the site i write for (horrorheads.net) within the next couple days. enjoy.

Saw II
Directed by Darren Lynn Bousmann
Released 2005

Gore Scale (1-5): 3
Violence Scale (1-5): 5
Kills: 11
Best Death: Saw to the throat
Nudity: None
Tagline: “Oh yes… there will be blood.”

The Story:
Jigsaw, who is now clearly dying of cancer, returns and locks a few troubled people in a house; they must find a way out before they inhale too much of a lethal nerve gas that will eat a way at their tissues and bleed from every opening in their body. But they must watch out for the traps Jigsaw has set in the house that will that lead them to their deaths, and they must also watch out for each other as the tension rises and time runs out.

Basic Thoughts:
Going into Saw II I only read what Bloody-Disgusting scored it (4 out 5) but I didn’t read their review because I didn’t want to know anything about the movie. I really enjoyed the original and I was worried that this rushed sequel wouldn’t live up to the original. Penetrate me with an axe handle sideways, cause I was dead wrong on that. Saw II is an improvement over the original by a lengthy trail of dead with the improvements carved up in each corpse displaying where they went wrong in the original and how they fixed it all in the sequel.

The acting was improved greatly. And while I didn’t really hate the acting in the first one, the actors in Saw II give better on screen performances of displaying madness, fear, and overall talent. The cast that is led by Donnie Wahlberg (Mr. New Kids On The Block himself) gives a very competent performance as a crooked detective (we always need more shifty cops in society.) Next in line we have the woman with the modified reverse bear trap on her head in the first film, Shawnee Smith, who came back for the sequel and steals the show. Given basically a non-scripted role in the first film, we were unable as an audience to truly see her act, but this time around she’s given much more to work with and she pulls it off deliciously. Tobin Bell (aka Jigsaw) who delivers an outstanding morbidly sane performance. Think Charles Manson meets Hannibal Lecter. It was fun watching him work the law. It was also fun watching him get his ass kicked.

Erik Knudsen (who plays Wahlbergs son in the film), Lyriq Bent (Four Brothers), Tim Burd, Franky G, the hot and titillating Beverly Mitchell (7th Heaven), Tony Nappo (Four Brothers), Glenn Plummer (Speed, Speed II), Dina Meyer (returns as the character Kerry) and the lovely Emmanuel Vaugier make up the cast we mostly see in the film. All of whom do a better than average job.

Gore and violence has hit the fan folks. While Saw II might not be overly gory, the matter in which the poor chaps die here are so painful it would make Hitler shed a tear. We are introduced to a re-modified bear trap that instead of ripping open, this time it closes on the victims face like a Venus fly trap eating a meaty winged treat. We have a brutal gunshot that displays the brain components perfectly. A girl gets thrown into a pit full of syringes containing God knows what. A nail-studded baseball bat connects with the backside of a skull. Double leg chop. A very nice hand saw to the throat (the same saw that was in the original.) Wrists inside of a razorblade trap. Finger breaking. Electrocution. Skin ripping. A nice death by fire. And quite a bit of random ass kicking thrown into the mix adds up for a very bloody good time.

The Twist:
I’m going to be honest, the twist in this film might not be all “shock and awe” as the original, but it’s still very very good. And the good thing about Saw II is that you can watch it again and again and not get bored with it. Whereas in the first film, after you see it once, it’s impossible for you to feel what you did upon the first watch. Saw II will make you cringe upon every viewing guaranteed.

Saw II also had one of the best endings I have seen in quite sometime. It was amazing how the writers combined the events of the first film in with the second. When you see it, you’ll see what I mean. I can only wait for the third installment now since Saw seems to be a franchise that will more than likely be sticking around for a while. And as long as they keep making sequels this damn good, I have no reason to want them to go away since Hollywood is so focused on remaking everything. Saw II is a breath of fresh air for the horror genre that’s being polluted by recycled garbage.

Judge The Blood:
Saw II is a ferocious sequel that will leave your jaw dropped and your arms bloody because your girlfriend’s nails got stuck in them. It’s an unexpected pleasent sequel, because of how fast it was put out. Saw II bares enough teeth to bite through a five-day-old ultimate omelet sandwich from Burger King and enjoy the aftertaste… and to it’s delight, the beast asks for seconds. So if you enjoyed Saw, you'll undoubtedly enjoy Saw II, or as I did, possibly more. Lions Gate has done it again.

you can expect another sequel
SAW II destroyed everything at the box office this weekend:

1. Saw II - $30.5 million (& the movie was budgeted at $4 million production cost, hows that for a profit?)
2. Zorro - $16.5 million (budgeted at $75 million production cost.. (haha) )
3. Prime - $6.395 million
4. Dreamer - $6.3 million
5. Wallace & Gromit - $4.4 million
6. The Weatherman - $4.225 million

oh & Saw II did $12 million better than the original on its opening weekend. Saw only opened at $18.2 million. However, Saw has grossed $102,917,772 since last year & was budgeted at $1.2 million. I wonder if Saw II will beat that?

but anyway, another victory for the low budget companies! $%@# hollywood!!!!
