Do you think we could use the Team USA patterns for tryouts? I think it'd be cool to bowl on something we're not so familiar with. Make us do some work.

8 games per day (7 would be the minimum). Make sure you're in bowling shape and that your equipment fits to reduce the chances of hand injuries.
We use the whole center, so it takes about 5 hours or so per day.
Patterns haven't been decided, but the US Open is traditionally the last day. It will probably depend on what sport patterns are in the machine at that time.
I'm bowling a Team USA Experience league this summer and it's been fun to get on patterns I haven't seen before. The 1st 3 weeks we got Los Angeles and we get something new starting tomorrow so I'm interested to see what's next. I was think for tryouts since there is 4 days we could do a short pattern, a medium pattern, a long pattern, and then maybe another medium. ((Although I'm totally ok with avoiding the long patterns altogether. Haha ))

I think I can speak for Phil here that we put shots out that are not only demanding and fair, but we can judge how each player reacts to and attacks the patterns. If we don't have some familiarity with the condition, then it's harder assess your ability. I like PBA patterns because 1) I'm a member, the center is a PBA house; and 2) PBA patterns are designed to play all parts of the lane. Frankly, WTBA patterns do much the same and I think it will be a little more work, but I like the idea.
I don't know about the oil can, Beef. Who even owns one anymore. lol

I think Mexico City or Paris would definitely be good for one of the days. They're both a decent amount longer than what we normally bowl on. My vote is Sydney, Seoul, Mexico City and US Open. Just sayingggg.
For those who like to plan well in advance, I have reserved the Leadership Room in Spellman for our annual paperwork party meeting on the first day of classes, Monday, August 22nd. We will start at 830pm. It's a bit later than the past few years, so those that might have night class can make it by.
I think PBA patterns are the fairest bet, although all you guys must see them on a pretty regular basis, they're probably the best representation in terms of creating a team for the collegiate tour. Playing stuff like Sydney and Mexico City/Paris would be a challenge, I could be wrong but chances of seeing that at an event during the season, are probably pretty slim. Where as PBA's are less extreme and might benefit the bowlers that would perform better over the course of a season.
That's just my thoughts, I could be way off the mark.
Oh and hey to everybody, my names Jake Daggett and I'm coming across from England in August. Can't wait to get across and do some proper bowling on some decent patterns, this country loves a wall too much!!!
Speaking of try-outs, I still have most (not all) of the bubble sheets from try-outs last fall. I'm cleaning up, so let me know ASAP if you would like yours for any reason. Otherwise, I'm recycling!
Hey Phil, I want my bubble sheets from last year. Hopefully I can learn something from them. Lol
I'm thinking with the patterns, were gonna be seeing these Team USA patterns in more and more tournaments, both in college and non-college tournaments, just because USBC is really working to promote them.
P.S...Hey Jake! Welcome to the team!

Hi Jake. Exciting your coming across the pond.

Looking at the WTBA patterns, I think we should keep the cheetah. There isn't that much difference between it the 4 WTBA short patterns to warrant a change. The mid and long patterns look very interesting.
Jr Gold is using the LA, Seoul and Mex City patterns. The last two might find a way into the tryout patterns.

How 'bout using Montreal? I bowled a tournament on that pattern last weekend and the cut for 4 games was -104 and only 3 people went plus. Rumor has it that in that bowling center's Team USA Experience league, nobody shot 600 for 3 games. So it might be a challenge. You definitely had to be deadly accurate or you were screwed.
What if we went Cheetah, Seoul, Montreal, Tokyo?
