NAIA Showcase Tournament

This post-season tournament in Indianapolis scheduled for the first weekend in April (Friday through Sunday, travel Thursday afternoon) is the pre-cursor to what could be an NAIA championship at some point in the future.  With LU moving from NAIA competition, this year might be the only year we can participate.

It has been pointed out that this tournament falls during the last four days of LU's spring break, 2011.  I wanted to make this known to get feedback and make sure we and everyone can plan as far in advance as possible.  The format consists of a day of baker qualifying and then double elimination match play the next two days, so it's very similar to ITC's and would be great practice in my opinion, plus I think it would be a fun tournament as well.  Let me hear from you.

at first i was bummed that i wasn't going to be able to really go anywhere for spring break, but in the end, i think it would be a good idea for us to bowl this tourney seeing as it's the exact same format as nationals... do you know what teams/how many will be there phil?? i think it would be great practice for us.. it can help us either boost our confidence for nationals or help us realize what we need to improve on as a team before the real nationals takes place a few weeks after... plus, we've been doing so well lately, it'd be nice to win a pre-nationals tourney in the same format :) so i say we do it

Well...hard to say exactly how many teams would show up because it's an open invitation to NAIA schools, but there are currently 36 NAIA colleges that have a men's or women's program, or both.

After 24 games of qualifying on the first day, the top 24 men's and top 24 women's teams would make it to match play.  It's best of 5 double-elimination until a champion is crowned over two days of match play competiton.  The top 8 teams would get a first round bye.

Nationals is still best of seven.  It's just going to a true double elimination format since there isn't TV... So, if the team from the "contenders" side wins the first best of seven match of the finals, there's another best of seven match.  It could be a 4-5 hour finals match!
