I have a several players bowling tournaments and going to a family reunion/aniversery on the weekend of Sept 3-4. My question is they are established bowlers on the team and I can predict where they would finish. Would be okay to seed them where I think they would finish?

if its an established bowler(s) thats been with us prior (which i believe you said they have), I say yes but keep them on a shoe string & by that i mean if they dont preform to your projected ranking, then bump them off to lower teams.

assumeing there is no way they can make the games up, this sounds legit. You are having the tryouts on labor day weekend, not an easy one for some to make for family reasons
If they are established I would not have a problem with it. Out of curiosity, would this include those of us who are injured? I don't think it will be an issue because I SHOULD be cleared to resume full activity in time, but just in case I am not I would like to know.

In this scenario it is my OPINION that if a bowler, veteran w/ LU or n00b, is unable to tryout that one weekend that their "ranking" after tryouts should be largely based on their performance after the first weekend rather than an assumed position.
I think Randy COULD make an accurate prediction but, in my OPINION, it would be best to use that kick-ass assuming ability as little as possible and focus on what performance was given on the 27th and 28th.
Wow! I leave town for 10 days and the forum starts hopping! Sorry for my absence, but I forgot to bring the darn link with me...and new job training called!
Much has been discussed in the last couple weeks, so much so that it's hard to catch up...so I'll try to do that later...
Regarding try-outs and players missing... Off the top of my head, I would say that if someone who finished last season in the top 3 or 4 is unable to make all the try-out sessions due to some conflict other than injury, they could legitimately be placed on the top team again to start, but I would weigh the try-out games they did bowl and I would leave the door open for adjustments in the future.
If they finished anywhere else the season before, I would place them on a team one notch below their "assumed" ranking and let them bowl their way up the ladder at the first few tournaments...once again weighing the games they did bowl in try-outs.
Injuries are a different story, b/c you never know how someone will come back after whatever was ailing them... In that case, I don't think they should be placed right back where they were, but on a team that would allow them to bowl themselves back into tournament shape...
Bottom line, there's no way to set a system in stone and even using games from a partial try-out are tough b/c of the different shots. Ultimately, you could have a "system" in place as a loose guide, but the coaches have to make the final call. You gotta earn your spot somehow.
Another option would be to have a "make-up" try-out session the weekend of Sept 10-11 with the same shots as Labor Day weekend...
Just some idle thoughts... I've already had to deal with something like this in past coaching lives...
See you all at the meeting...unless you want to show up at Plaza Lanes Tuesday (the 16th) for the start of the Master's league...
I just found out today that I might have to miss Saturday the 3rd of tryouts because I have a Ecology field trip that day....ghey....I am allowed to miss one field trip, if she believes bowling try outs are a good reason to miss a field trip then I can attend. I will soon let you know Randall.
For the record, my question about my injury is null and void. I have been cleared to resume all normal activity. So I just have to get my arm back to the point I have the strength to bowl 8 games straight.

Ah, that's not the best part....
Two weeks before Raffy (Dubya's buddy from back when he part-owned the Rangers) was caught, President Bush issued a public statement saying Major League Baseball should be TOUGHER on those testing positive for steroids.
Raffy tests positive. Bush is questioned and says "Raffy didn't know those drugs were in his system and I believe him."
Shows how objective Bush can be on a public issue.
