The event starts at 4 with group stretching at 330. We start at the PA and I imagine there is directions on site. Its only a couple miles and its walk or run.
If your on the Men's bowling team I expect you to be there. If not then you can join me on Wed at the bowl where there will be a spare practice from 1-2. I hope you guys make it to at least 1 of them. I know that I certainly need the exercise and the spare practice.
Girls are more then welcome to join. If not we will jump on your beds after the run and get your bed wet with sweat and not water this time :)
good turn out overall...bummer turn out from the team. :/ i expected to see more of the bowling team up there.
thanks for dean, brad, rj, brett, jenny b, ally, amanda, alyssa for showing up and giving it your all.
p.s. is it a weird coincidence that the boys that showed up are also the people that put in the games on the a-team??? Just trying to point out that the people that are typically getting the games in on the a-team, and winning tournaments, are doing more than the bare minimum. They are in the weight room. They are doing cardio. Putting in day time practices. For some of you that are trying to get there...might be something to think about

Thanks again everyone for showing up...lets have a good week of practice so we can have a good showing this weekend

I can hardly walk today haha. I won't be at this practice from 1-2. I have to get my schedule figured out with my advisor at 2 and have to prepare for it so she doesn't yell at me.
I hope those that didn't run yesterday make it up there though...
as someone came up to me tuesday night at practice and told me my post was wrong and insulting I would like to reply and maybe put my post in different words then. I will not however apologize because i dont feel like i have anything to apologize about...the post was meant to light a fire under peoples butts and get them to work harder, so if u were upset/offended well then maybe this will help.
This will be my 5th year being close to the program...being on the A team the last 4 years I feel like ive become quite passionate about this team and I'd like to see this team continue to be succesful (as you all are doing an AMAZING job of doing so far this year).
BUT, like i have seen in the 4 years before...alot of people will moan and groan about not getting a fair shot, or not getting placed higher on teams but what you have to realize is that everytime you go and practice...you better believe there is at least one person practicing harder and getting sharper out there.
It takes more than just showing up to the 2 mandatory (tuesday, thursday) night practices and throwing strikes on whatever pattern to become competitive out there on the weekends. The guys that are competitive out there and that are proving that LU is a power house are the ones that come in on days they dont need to and practice. AND they dont get there and just throw strikes all day. They work on hand positions, work on spares, work on speed changes, work on knowing their equiptment. THERE WILL ALWAYS BE ONE PERSON WORKING HARDER THAN YOU and that should be your motivation to always do that one more rep. Throw one more good shot. Practice your corners pins one more time.
Fact of the matter is I wasnt calling out anyone, I was simply pointing out that not only work on the lanes, but also work off the lanes (dealing with fitness) shows on the lanes. Stats dont lie and according to collegebowling.com the 4 guys that are still bowling on this team that went to the 5k run are also 4 of the top 5 guys in diff.
There should have been more participation as one of the team leaders asked the mens team to show up...mandatory or not. It was an informal team building excersise. And you can come on here and told me you had class and thats fine, or that you had homework (which in my opinion could of just been put off for the whole 45 mins it took to get organized for the 5k and do it) or whatever you wanna say, but there shoulda been more participation at this team building exercise...even if you gave your all and you couldnt jog the whole thing...there were plenty of walkers from all kinds of sports.
If this post still bothers you and you think im calling you lazy...well then i still think your reading it wrong...my point im getting across is work harder than ever, put in the extra rep, go the extra mile, practice the extra ten pin, bust your ass at doing whatever you do to make yourself a better bowler...and make the other teams sorry that they even thought they could beat LU on the weekends.

i will not be able to attend the spare shooting drills today due to the fact i have class on a seperate note i will be going up there after class around 3 if anyone who didnt attend the 1 oclock practice would like to join me
Okay... so i have heard some peoples opinions on what council has said. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But i think we all need to realize council has a point. Im not going to stand here and say that I am the hardest worker or the most in shape person on the team, but im willing to put forth the effort because you will hear it from everyone, the people who put in the time and effort will do better. They will make better shots and their overall game will improve. Your mental and physical game will get better. In my opinion, if you want to compete, you gotta put in the time. The whole dissapointment with the turnout for the 5k, i didnt go because i had no motivation... i was sick still and had no motivation to get up. But i think council has a good point about the team that is out there competing and winning torunaments. I think people who are against council should say something. I think he has alot of good points but still some are hard to attain.
i also think that what council said is true. u def need to put forth the effort bc the more effort u put in the better and faster u will improve and progress. i also didn't run the 5k but i did go up to the bowl between 1 and 2 to shoot spares and there was about 8 of us there including 1 girl and another girl that used to b on the team in previous years. hopefully more people showed up to shoot spares after that but i think that the team as a whole needs to put in the time and effort not only to better ourselves but to better our team as a whole.
I have read all the comments here and spoke to a few people on this matter. For people who had classes and meetings or were sick or something and such like myself and could not physically go to these events then there is nothing you could do everybody understands if you had other commitments, and i guess if you didnt know about it or only found out last minute that can be understandable to but council is right in the sense is that if you did no and you just 'couldnt be bothered' it just shows people your lack of commitment or makes people think you arent as commited. Sport and being successful and getting to the top of a sport is not given to you on a silver platter. Do you think people who are at the top of their game whether its Tiger Woods, Federer, Wes Malott all these people got their because they just went along with the crowd, NO they stepped their games up and went the extra mile. Take it from me ive been successful in two sports, i didnt get to be good at football by just going training three times a week, no we would train after we finished, we would all meet up the other days and train because we all wanted to go the distance. Its the same in bowling push that extra mile and you will get to where you want to be, i dont know if its just my attitude but if you play a sport you want to be the best at it, and to be the best its going to take time its going to take sweat and blood and hardship but you will reap the rewards when you get there. Also it shows your coaches you want it, i mean we are all here to be on the A team and they are there because of there hardwork and commitment therefore we have to raise our games and determination to beat them, sorry if this offends people but ive really had a good look at the situation and i am voicing my opinion
I pushed back my advisor meeting to make this practice because I did create it in the first place. I am glad that some people showed up but I guess I am unimpressed overall. If you were there it was actually fun and I certainly needed the practice shooting 10's and 3-10's lol.
Although I have periods where I will get lazy practicing, I have certainly put in my time. If you have aspirations to make the A team or bowl on it at any point your going to have to get ahead of us that put in the extra work. Just ask Kimini, took him 3 years but now hes crushing.
Brad and I work out 4-5 days a week in the weight room. If anybody wants to join or is curious when we go, shoot us a text. Everyone is welcome.
Town I couldnt agree with you more about lighting a fire underneath everyone on the team no matter what team they are on or what level they are at. No matter what ability anyone has they can always get better if they choose to.
I talked to a couple people on the team about the run and many of them didnt even see the post, know about the post or run, and or just were plain busy with classes and so forth. In my case, I did know about the run but I was too lazy to go. I am a senior credit wise who wont graduate until next yr so I am busy as hell with homework and doing practicum hours for two different elementary schools. Many times around 3 or 4 I just want to sit on my butt and relax.
I believe that we as a TEAM need to organize events such as working out, bowling outside of practice, and maybe even Sunday dinners in a timely manner so that everyone can decide and view their schedules to see if they can participate or not. I thought the 3k mile run was a excellent idea for the team but what about working out on a consistent basis as a team. What about scheduling practices outside of tuesday and thursday as a team?? Its all about communication and I believe that as a team we have alot of work to do as far communicating on and off the lanes. We can go as far as we want or as stay where we would like to it is up to us but it all starts off with successful communication.
Alright I want to get this straight. Obviously working hard is what we all need to be doing but it is stupid to say that the people are on the A team because the are hitting the weight room and doing cardio. Yes I know some of them are doing that but they there because they are flat out good. And if u are going to talk about me on Some gay ass forum you might as well use my name. This team is the best in the country because the bowlers here are already working there butt off I see tons of kids not on the A team up at the bowling alley practicing all the time. Yes council you are 100 percent right, if this team wanys to he the best we all need to do our best to work on every aspect of the sport. That means spare shooting, staying in shape, and being mentally Prepared.
This however will be the last time I ever write on this drama magnet it is just another way for team mates to get mad at one another. Other than that I have no hard feelings
i feel like i should reply not to continue an arguement, but to AGAIN set the record straight because i feel like my post was taken out of context...AGAIN.
You seemed to think I was picking you or picking on you for some reason Danny and Im not sure why. Actually the reason i didnt say your name was cause i didnt feel like there was a reason to single anyone out. I was simply stating that there might of been some unrest about my post and I wanted to talk more about it to get the story straight. Im actually surprised after my second post you are still as angry about what i had to say. but everyone has their opinion.
Again, i feel like you took something out of context...i never said that A team is on the A team because they do cardio and hit the weight room. I was using those things as examples to point out that the people that are up there, are up there cause they are willing to go the extra mile.
People arent born the best...people work to be the best. I dont feel like just cause u show up to the bowling and throwing balls, doesnt mean your practicing. just cause u picked up a ten pin doesnt make it a good shot. Practice is about quality. I hope people are true to them selves and run through drills or work on something when they go practice, otherwise the practice is worthless
Our team last year had to show up for 6 am practices...The whole team had to do pushups when we missed a single pin. The whole team had to do ten pushups when we fell off a shot. Is everyone willing to do that again?
Danny, I do hope you change your mind about never posting on this forum again thought because I think you will find your opinion of this being just a "drama magnet" will change. It is a great communication tool where the team can set up meetings and team functions.

I apologize for not showing up. I had to take the writing proficiency test that i need to graduate at the time the run was. Also i have class at 1 then tutor so i was unable to make it to spare practice.
ha...i remember taking that writing prof test...did u not take comp 2 here matt? i remember we had to take it at the end of that class....like after the final

i just wanted to add on here that i think a group of us guys should get together and talk about doing stuff outside of practice like kimani was talking about. i know in the past as team bonding things we have got together and played football or had bbq's. we could also incorporate spares drills or some other activities during practice to help make it a lil more productive. opinions and or ideas from other people on this would b appreciated.
im actually the one who never posts anything on the forum, but this topic seems like a good one to do so.
i am a firm believer that fitness is the most important aspect in ones bowling game. how can you be confident in throwing a good shot when your legs are tired after 5 games. how can you expect to hit your mark(in which there are tournaments in college bowling where you have to, we jus havnt experienced them yet.) when you core isnt strong enough to post shots the same way. i dont know about anybody else, but im always tired after a saturday of college bowling because they take so long. especially when later in the day, when maximum loft and leverage is needed, you need to be dependent on your body to produce good shots.
Danny- nobody cares that u didnt show up to the 5k run, and we all know u work hard on ur game in the bowling alley. but the point is is that working hard off the lanes is jus as important.
there is a reson why bill oneill lost 5 pounds in the offseason to prepare for the WSOB, Mika Koivunkdjsfsjadskbakjd runs 4 miles daily, and we all know how much success hes had. Walter Ray, Barnes, duke, weber, bohn, jones, MONACELLI, they all(NO HOMO x2) have bodies to stay out there and bowl game after game. you dont see jason hurd out there anymore do you??
point is that me and dean are always willing to see new people in thw weight room. between the 2 of us we know alot about fitness and were always willing to help. its always hard to go the gym by urself, but when u have the motivation of a WHOLE team in there, its super easy.we go everyday around noon and the gym is empty. ive been sore for the past three weeks and its one of the best feelings you can have.
confidence outside of the bowling is just as key as confidence on the lanes.
thats my post for this month...see ya later

Just throwing out ideas for bonding cuz that was pretty fun when we did those last year in my opinion.. but not the super freezing Blanchette Barbecue? lol
I know i said I wasn't going to write on here again but it is stupid of me to just let this be a problem. The reason it bothered me was that there are a ton of guys who in all seriousness don't have time to work out. Hell no joke sometimes practicing has to be put off for me. I didn't think I was getting singled out or anything I just thought that the statement was too generalized. I know everyone prolly didn't agree with me but some people did, either way it was a stupid thing to even worry about.
But forreal other than that Dean and Brett, since you two are the interchangeable A team captains, it would be cool if you pulled all the guys together next practice and we talked about what we wanted to do. Because I mean we can talk about doing the extra work all we want but until we get a plan or something going it is going to stay the way it is now. We need to set up mandatory spare practices, weight lifting sessions (there would be numerous times during the week set up and the person would just need to make it to some of them, whatever is agreed on), hell even just teaching people some of the more technical stuff about bowling, like oil patterns and lane graphs (something I don't know **** about). I'm sure everyone has some great ideas so lets get to talking about them.
I really don't want to continue this thread.lol its like beating a dead horse
Yes, i did take comp 2 here, but for some reason i wasn't required to take it right after that class. A computer system grades them now, which seems a bit odd to be...but i used long fancy words and lots, of, commas, and stuff, like that to boost, my grade. Hope that works out for, me.
From my point of view, nothing wrong with a former "A" teamer and coach doin' a little throw down to youngins on the team. A program where kids lead and take the initiative is going to be a very good program. However
The opinion of that poster forgot to mention the importance of academics. No one should have to apologize for missing training because they are to busy with school. Class work should always come first. This freshmen class is doing very well in school and Im proud of you guys.
No matter how good a bowler you become, the most important thing you can get out of here is your degree. Im sure the A team would agree with me.

i think it would b a good idea to go over how to layout balls and read the oil graphs bc i dont know much of anything about that stuff and i know im not the only one.
i def offer my help to anyone that wants to talk to me one on one bout it...as i feel with working with dolph over the 4 years and laying out equpitment to drill...i can be pretty good when it comes to that stuff

i definitely would love to see some team bonding stuff as well, at home i was captain of my county (state) and it was my job to do team bonding sessions. We would have barbecues, or go to a sports centre and play loads of different sports just do different things to help us bond as a team and i think this would be a great idea. Also classroom stuff would be good too, without a doubt learning about ball drillings, and lane graphs, and different physical changes you can make in your game would be to have to and i would certainly be attending that, therefore we should all get together one training session i think and have a talk about it
hahahaha for sure come watch me and Brad get sent off for nothing its funny lol feel free to come we have a good 10 strong crowd anymore would be great haha
