The Petersen Classic

Just about every year for the past 20, I've bowled the Petersen Classic in Chicago.  It's an 8-game scratch tournament across 16 lanes at Hoffman Estates Lanes in the NW Suburbs area of Chicago.  They do everything they can to mess with the lane conditions.  The pins are mis-weighted and off spot.  Last year, only 3 people out of about 4800 that entered broke 1600.  It really makes you appreciate the sport conditions we bowl on. 

Quite a few people around the St. Louis area put squads together, but I still bowl on a squad sponsored by my former collegiate coach from Springfield, MO in late August.  He normally has a few openings for bowlers.  The tournament isn't formally sanctioned, but if you are an adult bowler and would like an interesting challege, let me know.  This year, the squad I'm bowling is Saturday evening, August 22nd at 7pm.

Basic entry fee is $85 and there are other opportunities to enter other events.  For info about the tournament, check out www.thepetersen.com.  I can also answer questions if you have any.

This is coming up in a month.  Let me know if you might be interested.  I know it's a tough weekend with the beginning of school and check-in and all, but just in case...Top prize is about $25,000 usually.

I can reserve your spot on the squad and get the money from you by mid-August, or we can work out something else, if needed...

There's always a side pot for high game on each pair in our squad and optional doubles and team events in the tournament...

The 7pm squad is full, but I understand that there are still spots open in the squad just before starting at 3p or 330p if you're interested in bowling in that one...

Let me know if you want to go that route and I'll work it out...

I don't have as much insight regarding the 3p squad on Saturday, but let me see how many extra spots are available.  I'm sure we can take some if there are...

I just need to know 100% for sure who wants to go and if you're OK with the 3p Squad on August 22nd.

The squad I'm bowling in is at 7pm on the 22nd and it's already full. 

I'll find out how many spots are available at the 315pm squad on the 22nd by tomorrow (8/13) or Friday(8/14) at the latest.  This squad isn't controlled by the squad sponsor that I have, but the tournament director is working to fill spots if there is a demand for it.

I'll need full names, addresses and phone numbers of anyone who wants to still go by the end of the day Thursday, August 13th...and be prepared to send a check to someone in Chicago soon after.  Also include a 3-year composite average of your highest book averages the last 3 years...If it's over 200...just put 200.

As soon as I find out the number of available spots, I'll e-mail everyone I've heard from and let you know the procedure.

Turns out the 315p squad is wide open...so some guys are probably going to move from the 7pm squad and bowl 315p, so looks like there are openings in either squad...

Need names and addresses of everyone that wants to bowl and which squad you'd prefer.  The squad prize money will probably be combined between the two squads, so it will essentially be one oversized squad...

Need to know soon and get $$ from those going...at least the $85 entry fee... All the side pots and doubles and team (if you want) can be handled when you get there...

To help with this...I'll be in St. Charles at Plaza bowling master's league TONIGHT (8/18) from 7p-1030p.  Otherwise, you'll have to find me later this week in south county...
