The preliminary tournament schedule for 2013-14 is out, but not the final schedule, but still possible to get a good start on planning.
Things to know. The Lion's Classic is moved to the fall, the fourth weekend of November this year. Because of that, if we go to all of the same tournaments as this past season, we'll have nine tournament weekends in a row, but the last two would be in town. The Blue & Gold is no more, completely replaced by the Kegel Midwest Collegiate Classic the same weekend in Chicago. Most of the tier 2 tournaments allow us to take B & C teams. Take a look and provide feedback about what you're interested in bowling as a team. Thanks.

November 17, 18- Oshkosh, WI December 7, 8-Not really any tournaments January 11, 12-Eagles baker( PLEASE) January 25, 26-Rebels Classic, Las Vegas? Or the buckeye Classic in Ohio? I think adding some baker tournaments would be a good idea for the team. Vegas.. who wouldn't want to go there!?! Just need to convince Lindenwood! Also, i dont think the Striking Knights has the competition we need to bowl against.
*There comes a moment when it's more than just a game, and you either take that step forward or turn around and walk away. I could quit, but here's the thing...I love the playing field.*
Phil, maybe we could have a fundraiser( Fun Bowl) at St. Charles on Dec 7th? I would be willing to help find sponsers and attendence prizes.Just a thought, let me know what you think.
FINALLY, some feedback about the schedule for 2013-14!
I know it would be great to go to Vegas at the end of January, but it's logistically close to impossible. Too far and too much school lost to drive even going 27 hours straight through, and flights, even six months out, are $460/each. That's over $8000 just for a men's and women's team and one coach each, BEFORE hotel and food.
Krista, the Titan had six team games and 20 baker games last year. I don't know if it had a bracket or other kind of roll-off at the end. You can see the results from last year by looking at the collegebowling.com events page. Oshkosh is about 7.5 hours away, so I think it would be feasible.
I think having another baker tournament in the spring wouldn't be a bad idea, especially since our tournament is now in the fall, but I think three would probably be too many. Swapping the Eagles in Chicago for the Hoinke could be done, and result in a shorter trip. Since they eliminated the head-to-head bonus from the Hoinke, it's not nearly as interesting.
Something to keep in mind is that for 2013-14, the Eagles Baker and the Kegel Collegiate (the tier one replacement for the Blue & Gold) will be bowled on back to back weekends in the same bowling center.
Right now, the preliminary schedule shows nine straight weekends in the fall, and four in the spring. Any thoughts about that? See the Preliminary Tournament Schedule link in red to see all possible tournaments and dates for 2013-14.
October 19-20: Kegel Collegiate Classic-Peoria, IL
November 16-17: Titan Invite-Oshkosh, WI
January 11-12, 2014: Eagles Baker Challenge-Addison, IL
I think with the team we have going into this year, we'll be fine with doing 9 straight weekends, but I'm just one of many, so hopefully we'll get more of a say from the rest of the team sometime soon.
Midstates was one of the best tournamnets we bowled last year. The pattern was hard and the competition was great. We should bowl this tournament for sure
OCT 12-13 - Midstates is a great tournament and a good field. the pattern was hard. we NEED to go there. OCT 19-20- I liked orange and black but I wouldn't mind going to any of them. NOV-16-17 - WISCONSIN PLEASE!!!! striking knights had a super weak field this year. January 11-12 - HOINKE!!!! i believe its a bigger tournament than the eagles one plus I believe everyone on the team likes it, reply if I'm wrong please.
The Hoinke had more different men's schools than the Eagles Baker last year, but the Eagles Baker had more different women's schools than the Hoinke did.
I think I have to agree with Ray and Cristian. I like Midstates...TOUGH shot, solid field, lots of bowling, and we get to make a right turn on the highway instead of our usual left. I think the Orange & Black is a good tournament and the baker match play at the end really makes it. Plus as a coach, for the tier two tournaments on our schedule, I have to think in terms of making sure we can get B and C teams into the field if at all possible. The Kegel tournament in October is a varsity only event.
Seems that the Titan is getting across the board love from those that have responded so far. We would be trading a four hour trip for a seven plus hour trip, but it would be something different, so I'm OK with it. Robert Morris and Midland went last year, so the field would be pretty good most likely.
Still on the fence about either the Eagles or Hoinke...would be fine with either at this point.
October 19-20: Kegel Collegiate Classic-Peoria, IL
November 16-17: Titan Invite-Oshkosh, WI
January 11-12, 2014: Eagles Baker Challenge-Addison, IL

Is there a reason you want to chase RobMo around? We already will bowl against them head to head 7 times. Just a question.
FWIW, I like Midstates and Orange and Black. Midstates we get to make a right turn on to hwy 07 , O & B we have a big field with cool format.
Hoinke is cool center, but I'm sick of that surface. However, several years ago HC Dale overbooked and bump us out of the Eagles. I don't feel we should ever go that tournament again. Eff him. If you want a baker tourney we could always go back to MCK challenge. I don't care, I'm not crazy about any of the options that week, so I say Cinci because its farther south.
Even though it's 3 hours farther, I vote Titan.
(One other thought on Jan 11-12, split the squads, that will be fun)

Might have found something for the last weekend in January. While the Blue & Gold was removed as a tier 1 tournament, the Notre Dame Bowling Club still plans to host an event January 25-26 in South Bend, Indiana. No details yet on the format, but it would be a closer tournament than the other two main options.
Here's what I will submit for approval by Wednesday, June 19. That's one more weekend than we had the last two years, so if we're asked to drop a tournament, which one?

I say drop Midstates. I'd honestly rather go to the Western Shootout since we haven't ever been to that one. At least not since I've been here. If not Midstates, then Boilermaker. Boilermaker really isn't a very exciting format and the 2 squad thing kinda sucks since we always leave there not knowing whether we won or not.

I know I'm super late on this, but Im going to add my two cents anyways. I think bowling Midstates is the best tournament for us that weekend. It's a hard pattern and it helps us get more experience and competition on harder stuff. I admit that it was very difficult last year and many of the girls did not like bowling there but harder conditions makes us better and more prepared for future tournaments. Other than that, I like the rest of the schedule. I also don't think that bowling 9 weekends in a row is that big of a deal. The more bowling the better.
