So, today is the first day of classes? Welcome to the best 4 years you will have, at least up to this point in your lives. It will go by in a flash, trust me. Here are some thoughts:
Enjoy dorm life. It may seem stupid, or a hassle, or an inconvenience. But trust me, you'll look back and miss it. Don't be afraid to go out front of your dorm and play wiffle ball until 2am. Look up at one of the air vents outside of Guffey Hall. You should see a wiffle ball wrapped in duct tape stuck in there. Courtesy of Jerry Sparkman, that ball has been stuck there for 7 years. If your roommate and you are bored, take your trash can out in the hallway and jump over it. Running, standing, flatfooted, onefooted. It may seem stupid, but it will pass time. If you have a suitemate who may or may not be from Troy, have a black teammate lay in his bed and leave a cornrow imprint on his pillow. It's worth it. Go to football games. Basketball games. Baseball games. Make a team outing out of it. Eat dinner with your teammates. It's one of the best bonding experiences. Practice til 1:30am then get up and go to class at 8am. Enjoy bus rides. If you're going to Atlanta, enjoy the rest stop. It is the best one out of the entire season. Don't get lined up on the practice pair, then come and tell Randy, "I got a look!" No, you don't. You'll get three off the right (or left, if you're a lefty) and no one will let you live it down. GO TO CLASS. You don't get the grades, you don't bowl. It's as simple as that. And finally, do stupid ****. Make mistakes. You're a freshman. It's the ONLY chance you'll get to use that excuse. But most of all, enjoy it. My best friends in life came from college, and I only see them a handful of times each year. But we get together, catch up on life, and tell the same stupid stories. Just enjoy it. Cause real life sucks.
