Just letting you know from information based from class and other sources these types of bands do not have a lot of proof that they work. I contacted a maker of the company and they would not release experimental test results that they have run to see if the bands actually have a significant impact. Most of the these products are simply a mind over matter issue (placebo effect) and it worries me that they will not release the test results. This suggest the results probably would hurt the company's sales if they were released. Also, all of my psych professors strongly discourage buying the bands simply because there has yet to be supportive evidence that they work. Most likely they do not honestly work themselves. I've never tried them so I can not personally say whether they work but just wanted to let people know what I've learned. It would be pretty cool if they did work though.
These bracelets very well could be nothing more than a placebo effect but I have to agree with what Nick Swisher (Yankees Right Fielder) said in an article in The Herald Sun: "If you are tricking your mind, you're winning half the battle." After all, everyone always says bowling is 90% mental. No doubt, these are something that are going to be supported more by health professionals who support alternative therapies rather than those who practice from an evidence-based perspective, but as long as they don't cause any kind of health hazard, I think they'd be worth a try. Plus, collegeefxbowling.com spotlights collegiate teams who use their products on their website and their Facebook, so it might be a good opportunity for our program to get some attention (could be especially good from a recruiting standpoint)!
