A few have been asking about the try-out format and schedule for 2010... Had some discussions with Randy and barring any unforeseen circumstances, here's the plan:
Try-outs will take place the last Saturday and Sunday in August, the 28th and 29th, then we'll skip Labor Day weekend and conclude try-outs Saturday and Sunday, September 11th and 12th. Start times each day are yet to be determined, but we plan to bowl EVERYONE 8 games per day for a total of 32 games, so plan on starting pretty early to allow time to complete the block each day before the afternoon is over.
Phil, I talked to Randy a long time about tryouts and I'm flying back home that first weekend because my cousin is getting married and so he told me that I would just miss the first weekend and use the 2nd weekend for my scores. I hope that's still ok.
i can call bv to pull out the squirt bottle again too...

I think the score sheets we fill out should have some importance.
I think that if we did something like score equals 50% and then break the other 50% into pieces it will result in better teams. Since some bowlers might get cut this year I think stuff like spare and strike percentage, single pin percentage, and standard deviation would make it much more interesting.
Are you volunteering to do stats for all the guys at try-outs? That would be great! Thanks!
Actually...it would be pretty easy to calculate differentials based on each of the four patterns, whatever they may be, but there wouldn't be any difference between differentials and total pins if everyone bowls every game.
If someone wants to total raw numbers for strike percentage (ie, strike totals and first balls attempted), spare percentage and singles, I already have a spread sheet that will calculate percentages.
I agree with Dean on this one. Factoring some stats in may be a good idea. I'd be willing to do the guys stats...me and brett kinda tag teamed that this year anyway.
Should be a very interesting try out. I bowled on all the shots this summer. With the new oil the shots have been different and challenging. I would say the easiest on that list is the chameleon, with the hardest being the US Open. The new shark played very difficult as well...but finally opened up in the later stages. The scorpion is downright confusing for me and i dont match up well on it at all but i could see others scoring decent on it.
I mean if LU wanted to throw a few chips (transportation) my way to take care of some try-out nuances for the coaching staff, I would be more than happy to calculate percentages for everyone.

Reminder! When you arrive at the bowling alley please come and check in at the desk with either Nate or myself to get your lane assignment and your bubble sheet.
Please arrive at least 15-30 minutes before tryouts are scheduled to begin in case we need to make any last minute changes to the lane assignments.
