Also...remember how we said "Go to class!" at the big meeting at the beginning of the semester? Well...it's getting serious...
The school is enacting a new policy whereby you can be suspended from sports if your absentee percentage reaches a certain level. Watch this space in the next 24 hours... Need to review the policy and see exactly what it means, but don't skip any classes in the mean time!
The percentage that follows is based on UNEXCUSED absences... Excused absences (like those for sports or documented illnesses) are not counted against you at this point.
If you're unexcused absentee rate is 27% or higher in two or more classes, you will be suspended from sports effective Monday, October 19th until you can prove that you are passing the classes in question. More than likely, you'll have to get written documention from your professors either hard copy or via e-mail. I have a list of everyone that fits this description and I'll try to e-mail those individuals as soon as possible.
Mid-terms also come out this week and as mentioned at the beginning of the year, if it's reported that you have two or more F's in your classes, you're also suspended from sports until your professors can document that you're doing better in the classes in question, written or e-mailed. Your absentee rate in those classes will also be considered when determining if you're suspension from sports is removed.
Bottom line...Please go to class, or have a good, documented reason why you're not there... And if you get an e-mail from me regarding your attendance, please take care of it...
OK...due to some feedback from instructors and inconsistencies with attendance documentation, the attendance policy for athletics will NOT be enforced this (Fall, 2009) semester. Sorry for raising the alarm, but was just trying to keep everyone updated.
However, AFTER this semester, expect the following: Anyone with a 27% or higher unexcused absence rate that does not have a C average in the class will be suspended from athletics.
I'm sure there will be some additional tweaking before we actually get there, but the bottom line is still to go to class and have a good documentable reason why if you don't.
The mid-term policy is still in place... Two or more F's and you can't participate in athletics until those grades improve...
