Meeting/Tryouts

So I've been talking to a few of the new bowlers coming in this year and pretty much all of them were asking me when tryouts where.. and it got me thinking.. When are tryouts gonna be? lol.. I was also wondering when and where our meeting was gonna be on the first day of school? You know, the one where we fill out all that boring paperwork and introduce ourselves... which this time, is gonna take like an hour since we're gonna have a million people lol.. Just a thought.. Any info on any of that yet Phil or Dolph??

You're just a bit ahead of us!  Nice job!  LOL

Meeting is always scheduled for the first Monday evening of classes starting at about 7pm.  No location yet as we have to rethink where we have it.

Due to the number of people, try-outs are set for the last weekend of August and the first weekend of September (yes, Labor Day weekend).  Since we'll take up the whole house, we need to complete everything as soon as possible for leagues that will start.

Hope to confirm everything soon and send it out to the new bowlers and post it here.  Stay tuned.

Oh...for those going to JOG...see you there on Saturday!  Stop by if you can.

Phil

I might be around so I may stop by the booth. I am good at talking to youth bowlers.

You're right...we didn't have them over Labor Day weekend last year.  It was the first time in about 4-5 years.  Unfortunately, it wreaked havoc with leagues at St. Charles Lanes.  Still discussing it, but we'll most likely stick with them over Labor Day weekend Sat/Sun.

One option in the future would be to start tryouts the weekend that everyone gets back to school, but logistics make that tough.

Bottom line, it comes down to St. Charles Lanes running a business and with the economy the way it is(and in general), from a business standpoint, Labor Day weekend is a great weekend to run tryouts because it's one of their slowest weekends, so they don't lose business elsewhere.

Our program really has a nice perk because we aren't charged for any of the games that are bowled for try-outs and practices, estimated at about $25,000 a year, so giving up a couple days of Labor Day weekend is a bit of a trade-off.  It allows us to go to more tournaments during the year than just about any other program in the country.

Honestly, I would love to not have try-outs on Labor Day weekend, but we have to work with what makes the most sense from the standpoint of St. Charles Lanes as a business.

As far as missing other tournaments, maybe it would make sense to create something that would attact people to come here on Labor Day?  Find a way to make the bowling center a few dollars on a weekend that they normally don't and it's a win-win for everyone!

Just a thought.

I would be willing to move tryouts off Labor day if everyone was willing to pay.

I have something come up on the schedule for Labor Day weekend, so we can have the weekend of the 12-13 for tryouts.
