All returning and new players for 2008-09

Hi everyone-

Please read this post in its entirety regarding preparations for the start of the 2008-09 season and for opportunities to order Brunswick bowling balls prior to try-outs, if you would like.

The team organizational meeting will be Monday, August 25th most likely beginning at 7pm at a location on campus to be determined.  This meeting is mandatory, unless you have class that evening or are excused for other reasons ahead of time.

Here is a simple check list of things needed prior to the try-out tournament, or as soon as possible thereafter:

PROOF OF MEDICAL INSURANCE (copy of insurance card or something similar)
COMPLETED PHYSICAL (preferred done by your own physician prior to the start of classes)  On-campus physicals are offered, but the schedule is limited (see below)
MOST RECENT USBC MEMBERSHIP CARD or at least the number (needed for sanctioning for the season)
GUYS:  a pair of black and a pair of khaki pants
LADIES:  a pair of black and a pair of khaki shorts
UPON ARRIVAL, everyone will need to sign an eligibility form so grades can be tracked throughout the semester.

THE TRY-OUT TOURNAMENT will consist of a total of 32 games, 8 games per day bowled on 4 different sport patterns on the two consecutive weekends following Labor Day weekend, or September 6-7 and 13-14.  Anticipate a 9am start time each day, but a possible later start on Saturday, depending on junior league schedules at St. Charles Lanes.

Our program is sponsored by Brunswick which means that all Varsity (A-team) bowlers must throw exclusively Brunswick bowling balls in all collegiate tournaments and post-season beginning with our first tournament in Milwaukee.  You are not required to throw Brunswick equipment during the Try-out tournament.  We do receive a supply of balls from Brunswick.  Distribution of that equipment will be explained later.

As part of the sponsorship, all current Lindenwood bowlers can purchase the latest available Brunswick bowling balls at reduced prices.  You don't have to, but for those that would like to order something PRIOR to the beginning of try-outs, I am putting an order together.  The latest list of available balls will be sent via e-mail to those whose e-mails I have.

UNFORTUNATELY, RANDY HAS HAD MAJOR COMPUTER ISSUES AND MOST OF THE GUYS E-MAILS ON FILE HAVE BEEN LOST!  IF YOU DON'T RECEIVE AN E-MAIL FROM ME BY THE AFTERNOON OF SUNDAY, AUGUST 3RD, PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT:  phil-mark@att.net, LET ME KNOW WHO YOU ARE AND I'LL SEND THE LIST TO YOU.  PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH THOSE THAT MAY NOT CHECK THE FORUM REGULARLY, BUT KEEP THE PRICE LIST CONFIDENTIAL WITHIN THE TEAM.

For those that would like to order something, I must know what you want along with weights and have a check in hand (or cash) for the cost of the balls, plus $15 per ball to cover shipping, by Thursday, August 14th.   I will NOT order anything unless I have the cost covered up front.  The order will be sent by Friday, August 15th, so barring any issues, everything should arrive by the first week of September.

For those in the St. Charles area, I will be at Plaza Lanes the evening of Tuesday, August 12th if you would like to order something in person.  Otherwise, you can mail your checks and ball orders to me at:

Phil Vida
9618 Hale
St. Louis, MO 63123

I'm putting the whole order on my credit card, so checks should be written to me.

E-mail me or call my cell at 314-368-7556 with any questions.

I think that covers everything for now...keep checking the forum for further updates!

Randy and I are both looking forward to another great season of Lindenwood bowling!

Phil  (see below for on-campus physical schedule)

PHYSICALS -$15

CHECK-IN: Upper-level entrance of the Performance Arena

*Arrive on time with proof of insurance, (Emergency Information Sheets will be provided at Check-In and can be completed at that time)

*Please also inform your athletes that to increase efficiency in performing these physicals, there will be a wait period from one station to the next. This ensures that examinations will be performed at a constant rate with no down periods. The physicians donate their time to assist with these physical examinations and we want to make the most of their valuable time. We expect all athletes to be respectful of other students as well as the athletic training staff and physicians during this time.

I don't think it has to be the specific form, but if you want to be on the safe side, there's a 4-page NAIA form that you can access and print from the Lindenwood Athletics home page.  See the channel headings at the lower left side of the page:  http://www.lindenwood.edu/athletics/home/

For all first time students to Lindenwood, they're also requesting a history/confirmation of immunization records.  This may have been covered by Admissions, but just in case, it's a one page form that they'd like mailed to school.  It's available in the same area of the LU athletics home page.
