Sectionals-TENNESSEE

ARLINGTON, Texas - The post-season field for college bowling was announced Wednesday as sectional-qualifying assignments were handed out for the 2014 XBowling Intercollegiate Team Championships.

Sectional assignments are based on the Team Ranking System points earned in USBC Collegiate-certified competition throughout the season. USBC Collegiate attempts to place no more than two of the top eight schools and no more than four of the top 16 schools in a sectional based on final TRS totals. Sectional qualifier fields are determined by taking geographic distance, economics and field size into consideration.

The sectionals will consist of 32 Baker games each day for a total of 64 Baker games. The top four teams based on total pinfall in each division following the completion of competition at each sectional will advance to the 2014 XBowling Intercollegiate Team Championships.

In addition, these four locations will host qualifying for the 2014 XBowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships on March 14. Competitors at each of the four sectional events will bowl six games with 24 men and 16 women - the top four men and top four women at each sectional plus eight additional selections from the men's field based on size of field at each location - advancing to the national singles tournament on April 15 in Reno.

Men by ranking,

3 Notre Dame-Ohio,
5 Lindenwood,
10 Urbana,
15 Morehead State,
17 San Jose State,
20 Florida State,
26 Martin Methodist,
33 Kansas,
35 St. Ambrose,
39 Vincennes,
42 Northwestern Ohio,
43 Cumberland,
51 Youngstown State
52 Campbellsville,
55 N.C. State,
63 Huntington,
66 Ball State,
73 Wisconsin-Madison,
79 Central Florida,
82 Michigan State,

Two things that strike me; Urbana, Morehead st and St Ambrose best bowlers might be the lefthanders. The pattern might dictate their chances.
And how in the world did a 17th ranked San Jose St get in this sectional?

I'm confused, because I got an email from Gary Brown at 8 this morning saying that we're all at Addison. What's up with that?

Check the source of the email Ricky.  I think a collegiate coach was pranking one of his fellow coaches this morning!  biggrin.gif

It's from gbrown@ibcyouth.com

Why would they go through so much detail in an email if it's a prank and why would they send it to me?

Women's rankings

4 Lindenwood University
8 Notre Dame College
12 St. Ambrose University
13 Florida State University
17 Urbana University
22 Huntington University
24 Adrian College
27 Bellarmine University
38 Northwestern Ohio /University of
40 Alma College
43 Campbellsville University
44 Martin Methodist College
53 Cumberlands/ University of the
60 Illinois State University
61 Morehead State University
62 Wisconsin /Univ. of - Madison
66 St. Catharine College

This is a good draw for two reasons;
1 - None of the teams in this field have finished ahead of us in a tournament. Notre Dame, the highest seed besides LU, finished 21st in Indy, around 500 pins behind us. Not saying they can't beat us, but they haven't...
2 - No NCAA teams. We found that the top 20 NCAA schools equate pretty close with the USBC top 16, so when you add one of them to a Sectional it skews the seeds. For example. the east has the 4 USBC top 16 ranking seeds (Webber, Wright St, Davenport and Bowling Green). On top of that they have Maryland-Eastern Shore, Kutztown, St Francis PA, Sacred Heart and Norfolk St., all ranked in the NCAA top 20. Webber will survive okay, but between Wright St, Davenport and Bowling Green, at least one is getting screwed. I probably shouldn't put this on a public forum, but Bowling Green won't survive out of this sectional, no way do they beat UMES.

Funny thing is the USBC could have added Vandy to our sectional, they qualified by being ranked 58th, but they left them off. They usually don't come anyway, so they probably told that to the USBC, but if they did get an invite to our Sectional, Smyrna is their home house. They're not as good this year, ranked 8th, but Renslow, Fry and Goodman can flat out play.
Doesn't matter, they're not coming. Makes Smyrna the only Sectional without an NCAA. Good for us.

A couple of teams left out; boys - SagInaw, girls - Whitewater. They probably missed their registration paper work.

Whitewater is a NCAA school that finished 16th at Indy, they would have been ranked around 20th,. I doubt if they would have been a top 16 school, but are ranked 9th in the NCAA.

Saginaw just got 6th place power points at the Hoosier and would have been in the top 8 in rankings. I hate to see Aaron Lorincz go out like that.
